Week 6 Journal

Beat 1) The first beat that I have chosen is the Tampa Bay Buccaneers (or more specifically, Tom Brady breaking the all-time passing record this week). The reason that I have selected this as my topic is because of the history that this team is breaking right now. Not only has Tom Brady (the team's quarterback) just become the all-time leader in passing yards, but they are also the defending Super Bowl champions. Another interesting fact that makes this topic interesting is that Tom Brady broke the all-time passing record playing against his former team The Patriots.

Drop Quote: Tom Brady once said “Every quarterback can throw a ball; every running back can run; every receiver is fast, but that mental toughness that you talk about translates into competitiveness.”

Whammy: Tom Brady, the greatest football player of all time, has broken the all-time passing record tonight in his 22nd season playing in the NFL.

Rhetorical pivot and shift: Brady completes a pass to Mike Evans…

The crowd is silent.

the ball is placed by the referee, it becomes official. Tom Brady has taken the throne as the all-time passing leader.

One sentence graf: Once Brady completed his pass to receiver Mike Evans, everybody knew what had happened; Brady just became the all-time passing leader.

Beat 2) The second beat that I have chosen is news regarding the hugely successful Japanese manga and anime series One Piece. The manga series recently hit the milestone of hitting its 1000th chapter. The Anime is close behind with 990 episodes. The reason I choose this as my topic is because of the success of the series. One Piece is the second highest-grossing anime series of the 21st century with the franchise being more than 20 billion dollars. It is also the sixth highest-grossing anime series of all time.

Drop quote: Monkey D. Luffy says “I'm going to be king of the pirates”, and he may finally be close to his goal.

Whammy: Eiichiro Oda, the author, and creator of the long-running anime and manga series "One Piece" has just completed his 1000th chapter, marking a milestone very few shonen authors ever dream of completing.

Rhetorical pivot and shift: Once a pirate, soon to be king. This dream might finally come true for the character Monkey D. Luffy as “One Piece” author Eiichiro Oda reaches his 1000th chapter after 22 years.

One sentence graf: A few weeks ago, readers cracked open the weekly edition of the long-running series one piece. To many people, this was just the latest saga of the long-running story, but to fans, this was the release of the 1000th chapter.
